How to Install a Mondella Concerto Toilet (Bunnings DIY Guide)

Plumbing Materials:

✔ New flexible water inlet hose (if required/highly recommended)
✔ Pan collar (connects the toilet to the waste pipe, included with toilet)
✔ Rubber washers & seals (included with the toilet)

📌 Pro Tip: Double-check the toilet kit to ensure all parts are included before starting.

🚽 Step 1: Remove the Old Toilet

1. Turn Off Water Supply

  • Locate the isolation valve near the existing toilet.

  • Turn it clockwise to shut off the water.

  • If there’s no isolation valve, or it is faulty, you may need to turn off the main water supply.

2. Remove the Old Toilet

  • Flush the toilet to drain the cistern completely.

  • Use a sponge & bucket to remove remaining water.

  • Disconnect the water supply hose from the cistern using an adjustable spanner.

  • Loosen the pan fixing screws (usually at the base or back).

  • Carefully lift the toilet off the waste pipe.

📌 Pro Tip: If the toilet is sealed with silicone, use a utility knife to cut through it.

🛠 Step 2: Connect the Waste Pipe

1. Attach the Pan Collar (Waste Outlet)

  • Insert a new pan collar into the waste pipe.

  • Apply a small amount of lubricant to help fit the pan connector into place inside the waste pipe.

  • Measure from the back of the pan (toilet bowl) to the waste outlet on the pan itself (internal). Then add 45-50mm to allow for the pan connector to push through and make a nice snug seal.
  • Back to the Pan connector, measure from the wall and mark where you will need to cut. (eg 195mm+ 45mm = 240mm)
  • Cut the pan connector where marked and deburr the plastic swarf carefully.
  • Install the pan connector rubber and plastic ring to hold it in place, then then install the support bracket and fix to the wall with the screws provided.

2. Assemble the Toilet Suite and Fit in Place

  • Install threaded brass bolts and nuts with rubber into the pan.

  • Align the toilet over the waste pipe and gently push it into position.

  • Place the cistern upside down, giving all the factory installed connections a firm tighten up, being careful to not over-tighten them as the components are plastic.

  •  Place the supplied foam cistern rubber over the flushing port, and install an appropriate high-quality flexible connection to the water inlet valve, giving it a firm tighten up.

  • Bring the cistern over to the pan, and feed the water supply hose through the holes in the pan out towards your water connection on the wall.
  • Using the supplied bolts and rubbers, fix the cistern to the pan, adjusting each side evenly until it is firmly against the pan and has no movement.

📌 Pro Tip: If your toilet is back-to-wall, ensure the cistern inlet aligns with the wall feed pipe.

💧 Step 3: Connect the Flexible Water Inlet Hose

  • Connect the flexible connection onto the isolation valve (mounted on the wall)

  • Hand-tighten first, then use an adjustable spanner to give it a final firm turn.

📌 Pro Tip: Do not overtighten! Too much force can damage the valve’s plastic thread.

🚽 Step 4: Test for Leaks

  • Slowly turn on the isolation valve and let the cistern fill.

  • Inspect the hose connections for leaks.

  • Flush the toilet multiple times (~ 10) and use a smartphone torch over one of this holes that we will later use to install the seat, with your eye over the other hole and inspect for any leaks in and around the toilet you have now almost installed!

🛠️ Step 5: Install the Flush Button & Toilet Seat

1. Secure the Cistern Lid & Install the Flush Button

🔹 Attach the flush button to the top of the cistern lid, with the appropriate button lining up with the flushing mechanism (half flush vs full flush)
🔹 Ensure the button aligns with the rod system inside the cistern.
🔹 Carefully place the cistern lid securely on top.

📌 Pro Tip: If the flush button feels stiff or unresponsive, check that the flush rods aren’t too long or short —screw them slightly in or out needed.

2. Install the Toilet Seat

  • Unpack the seat and hinges—most modern toilet seats come with top-fixing or bottom-fixing bolts.

  • Align the seat hinges with the pre-drilled holes at the rear of the toilet pan.

  • Top-Fixing Seat: Bolts are inserted from above and tightened with plastic anchors.

  • Adjust the seat position before fully tightening the bolts—ensure it’s centered and aligned with the pan.

  • Use the supplied Allen key firmly tighten the fixings.

📌 Final Check: Open and close the seat to make sure it moves smoothly and stays in place.

✅ Final Steps: Test Everything

✔ Flush the toilet a few times to confirm proper operation.
✔ Check for any movement in the seat or loose fixings—tighten if needed.
✔ Clean up the installation area, removing dust, packaging, and tools.

🔫Silicone the Pan to the Floor

Silicone is essential for stability and hygiene, preventing movement and stopping water or dust from getting under the pan.

Clean the area: Use a damp cloth to remove dust and debris from the base of the toilet and the floor.
Choose the right silicone: Use a sanitary-grade, mold-resistant white or clear silicone.
Load the silicone gun and cut the nozzle at a 45-degree angle for better control.
Apply a continuous bead around the base of the toilet, keeping it smooth and even.
Smooth the silicone bead with a wet finger, silicone tool, or soapy water spray for a neat finish.
Allow the silicone to cure for at least 24 hours before use to ensure a strong seal.

📌 Pro Tip: Avoid applying too much silicone, as excess can look messy and trap dirt over time.
